Most often than not, people looking for replacement for their old and worn-out roll up garage doors start their search in stores that offers cheap doors, but when they get into the actual shopping and see the doors offered, they realize there are so many factors they need to consider aside from the bargain.
Brand New Cheap Garage Doors Aren't Always The Best Choice
It's no secret that our unpredictable economy gives us tons of uncertainties, that's why we always look for ways to save money, especially in home-improvement investments like replacing our garage doors.
However, when it comes to garage doors, saving money by opting for brand new but cheap doors isn't always a good idea. We get what we pay for, and it's true for most things in life. Many cheap garage doors may look attractive at first glance, but when you take a closer look, you'll easily identify its weak spots and poor construction. Last thing you want is installing a sub-standard door in your garage that starts to dilapidate after only a few months.
Safety
Obviously, you want to install a door that meets all the recommended safety standards. One good safety feature is that automatic reverse feature; it allows to the door to automatically go back up as soon as it feels contact with anything underneath. So many people, especially children, got severely injured before this feature was introduced.
Good Materials For Stability
There are so many different types of garage doors made from various materials. Material of course, is another important thing to consider as it's directly associated with the stability. Steel panel is the most durable option available.
Insulation
Insulation is one of the most important things to consider when shopping for a door for your garage, especially if it's connected to any entry door to your house. Good quality doors have thick Polyurethane foam, while doors with poorer insulation only come with regular Styrofoam, which can't really take out cold and cut noise. A door without any insulation is like an open window in a blizzard; it's not very comfortable.
Rating
Rating determines how the door works against the elements. Houses in high-temperature places need an R-value rating with a minimum of 15. Houses in milder climate, on the other hand, can make use of garage doors with rating 6 or so. Always consider how you want your garage to work. Obviously, if you're looking for a warm car during winter season, you want a garage door that can deal with the temperature.
Whatever the type of garage door you want to replace your old one with, make sure you explore all your options and avoid being an impulsive buyer. Be patient, visit as many stores as you can and compare garage door prices. Make sure you understand the features you want to have and talk about it with the seller. For example, if you're looking for a garage door with good insulation, then ask about the things they offer that fits your preferences and budget.
